The proposed event has the following specific objectives: Provide a forum for those leading broadband initiatives to present their experiences and ideas for the future Engage in thematic discussions about specific strategies for broadband enabled development and address digital divide issues Invite local, national and international experts and practitioners with substantive knowledge of ICTs for development to discuss strategic directions. The themes of this symposium emerged from discussions among academicians, researchers, policy makers, service providers and representatives of civil society organizations. During my time with Wireless Toronto, I had an opportunity to meet and work with many great people. I learnt a lot about WiFi and related technology, deepened my knowledge of community, and had a lot of fun. I am grateful to Gabe and all the other founding members for their companionship and for the opportunity to make a modest contribution to expanding the reach of 21st century community resource. It is fitting too that Wireless Toronto is housed at the Centre for Social Innovation where it all began, in place that takes community and initiative seriously. With the responsibilities of my consulting practice, my curatorial responsibilities with the new reading series livewords, and an invitation to join the Board of Directors of the Old Town Toronto Promotional Alliance, I am no longer able to make a meaningful contribution to Wireless Toronto. It is fitting too that Wireless Toronto is housed at the Centre for Social Innovation where it all began, in place that takes community and initiative seriously.
