We haven't met in a while, so it's a great time to come out if you've never been to one of our meetings. We'll catch everyone up on what we've been up to, and talk about some opportunities this spring and summer. Lots of ways to get involved, for designers, techies, writers, community folks, etc. Hope to see you there...! I didn't get everyone's email address and name down, so apologies for the general post - this is directed at the person who was interested in the idea of a bike-mounted streaming video cam for the Ride for Heart. I checked with my contact at Critical Mass (mass bike ride thru town last Friday of every month), and he didn't think it has been done by them yet, although he has mused about such an idea himself. However, he's a still photographer, and ended up suggesting a still camera, which isn't really the kind of info we need. I have seen the idea mentioned online (link below) and will continue my research for info via google, etc. http://www.flickr.com/photos/roland/2594058664/ Jon Jon Alexander w.416.348.9710.x3039 c.416.805.4332 Gabe Sawhney wrote: > The next Wireless Toronto volunteer meeting will be on Tuesday, April > 21st, 6-8pm, at the Centre for Social Innovation, 4th floor. > > We haven't met in a while, so it's a great time to come out if you've > never been to one of our meetings. Those who were there know that it was a great meeting. A bunch of project ideas came out of it, and people informally identified which projects they're interested in working on. Those projects are: 1) Community portal pages & location-based information: Gabe, Mo, Michael, Jason, Tom, Jon, ++ 2) Advocacy / municipal wifi / etc.: Michele, Mo, Omid, Hilary, Jon, Tom, Alex, Gabe, ++ 3) Fun stuff / bike-mounted-wifi-enabled videocam / bakertweet / +++: Mo, Michele, Omid, Hilary, Michele, Dave, Jon, Tom, Gabe, ++ 4) Operations / new venues / auth server: Gabe, Mo, ++ 5) Helping facilitate the deployment of free wifi in highrises / co-ops / etc.: Graham, Carol, Gabe, ++ 6) Outreach Omid, Hilary, Jon, Dave, ++ 7) Kensington mesh Jason, Michele, Mo, ++ Some links of (tech) interest: Wifidog (which we're currently using): http://wifidog.org Open-mesh (which we're experimenting with): http://open-mesh.com Wifidog TNG (which is in the planning stages): http://dev.wifidog.org/wiki/TNG --- I'd like to suggest that someone from each of those projects takes on a coordinating role for that group. Which might mean as little responsibility as setting a meeting date/time. Groups can meet at the Centre for Social Innovation, or anywhere else... And doodle.com is a neat way of helping agree on meeting times. Thanks! Is it too late to add interests? I'd be potentially interested in the Operations task, if I haven't mis-understood what it covers. I'm also keen on the Kensington mesh project, which I've dabbled in previously on my own Guess I may have to drop some others, although I am curious about the ones I'm already listed under, and would like to at least stay in the loop about them. regards, Jon www.planetgeek.ca From gabe at pwd.ca Thu Apr 16 18:51:50 2009 From: gabe at pwd.ca (Gabe Sawhney) Date: Thu, 16 Apr 2009 18:51:50 -0400 Subject: [wirelesstoronto-discuss] Wireless Toronto meeting: April 21 Message-ID: <95b1c3780904161551s2afa4686gdab79a47c4156df5@mail.gmail.com> The next Wireless Toronto volunteer meeting will be on Tuesday, April 21st, 6-8pm, at the Centre for Social Innovation, 4th floor.
