Message-ID: <95b1c3780602130749t45cefcb8g221532a7cc6e43e2@mail.gmail.com> The next WirelessToronto meeting is on Wednesday February 15th, at the Centre for Social Innovation, 215 Spadina (between Queen and Dundas), Suite 120; http://socialinnovation.ca We've devised a new meeting format, to help everyone make the most of these monthly gatherings while accommodating the larger number and wider range of people who've been coming out to the last few meetings. 5:30-6:00: Operations 6:00-6:30: Introductions and project reports 6:30-7:00: New idea presentations 7:00-7:15: We move to the Embassy at 223 Augusta (just south of Baldwin) 7:15-????: Discussions & follow-up & long-windedness & food & drinks --- Operations: This section is optional, but open to anyone who's interested. Intended to quickly address group decisions that need to be taken. Introductions and project reports: We go around the room and everyone takes 90 seconds to introduce themselves and/or report back on a WirelessToronto project group (one representative per project group). New idea presentations: Introduce new ideas to the group so people who are interested can get involved and make it a project. This is also the time when people external to the group would speak about ideas. We move to the Embassy: To address people's hunger and thirst. It's a short walk. The location will rotate, but the Embassy has served us well in the past. Discussions & follow-ups & long-windedness: An integral part of the evening, the antidote to the tight-structure of the earlier parts. --- If you're new to Wireless Toronto, we recommend that you arrive for 6pm. If you're already involved with Wireless Toronto, please try to make it for 5:30pm. If you just wanto to buy us a drink, come to the Embassy at 7:15. --- This week, we'll be expecting reports on: - The new auth server - The new Wireless Toronto web site, basecamp site, and blog(???) - The Scarborough Village project - Possible node at Dufferin Grove Park! - more New ideas: - Hotspot/Venue sprint - WirelessToronto's one-year anniversary (party?) - Collaborating with terminus1525.ca - Installing NSLU2s with DAAP for (collaborative?) iTunes music sharing - more Get involved! Whether you're into writing press releases, surfing Google maps, or tweaking iptables rulesets, we can use your help. Wireless Toronto has today registered its 1,000th user through its network of free WiFi hot spots across the GTA. In less than a year Wireless Toronto has gone from an idea inspired by Montr?al's Ile Sans Fil to 13 deployed hotspots from Oakville to Scarbourough, Woodbridge to St. Lawrence Market. Wireless Toronto is an all-volunteer non-profit initiative dedicated to re-imagining how technology, community groups, the arts sector, and businesses can come together to re-vitalize Toronto's public spaces. With a diverse group of 20+ volunteers, Wireless Toronto has been busy setting up additional hotspot sites all across the Greater Toronto Area, and looks forward to increasing the number of deployed hot spots in time for the group's first anniversary in May. Volunteers, site sponsors and creative ideas are welcome. Wireless Toronto invites all who are interested in encouraging the growth of free community wireless in Toronto to come and join the adventure.
