1) New hotspots!

Wireless Toronto has set up three new hotspots since Christmas:

Lot 16Bar, 1136 Queen St. W.
Gusto Cafe, 4906 Dundas St. W.
Sneaky Dee's, 431 College St.

2) Hacknight!

Our January hacknight was a small gathering, but the project it
spawned -- a battery-powered wifi hotspot-in-a-backpack, with
"portable Internet" uplink -- was featured on Torontoist, the Spacing
Wire, BoingBoing, and in the Globe and Mail!

Our next hacknight will be on February 28th, 6:30-9:30pm at
InterAccess (interaccess.org), 9 Ossington (at Queen).  We'll be
working on the MediaBox, a customized network-attached storage (NAS)
device which we're deploying at some of our hotspots to offer
"high-bandwidth" local content.  Info at:

3) Adopt-a-hotspot & workshop!

Wireless Toronto is an all-volunteer group, and we need your help!  We
do our best to make sure that all the hotspots are always up, but
sometimes we get busy and a few days go by without any of us having
the chance to fix it.

And so, we invite you to Adopt-a-hotspot!

As an adopter, you'll receive an email notification when our system
notices a hotspot go offline.  Most of the time, the wireless router
just needs to be rebooted -- we can tell you how to do that, and where
to find it.  If you'd like to adopt-a-hotspot, email:

Most of our hotspots are very solid, and rarely go down.  Some,
though, seem to always be up-and-down.  If you're interested in
learning "advanced troubleshooting" for our routers, we're having a
workshop on February 15th at 6:30.  Email contact (at)
